Hey there! We’re Natálka and Bára, two women who brought together our experiences and perspectives to create Oumai – a space for intimate wellbeing that we believe women truly need. And here’s our story.
I, Natálka, always knew that having a good relationship with your own body doesn’t just happen. Growing up in Belarus, we didn’t talk about anything related to our bodies. No conversations about menstruation, self-care, or body acceptance – nada. I was skinny as a stick, which I hated, and that feeling of not accepting myself followed me through my teenage years. It didn’t just affect how I interacted in relationships, but most importantly, it impacted my relationship with myself. And even when I grew up and didn’t really have a reason to struggle with my body anymore, those inner doubts lingered.
In therapy, I was encouraged to explore my relationship with my body on a physical level – to look in the mirror, really get to know myself, and build that relationship without needing a partner. And let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. “Self-love” and “self-acceptance”? Sure, they sound great on paper, but for me, they were always cliché terms from feel-good articles. But the more I got into it, the more I realized there was something to it. (And, of course, this was just a small part of the therapeutic process that helped me.)
At the time, I had been single for a while, which gave me the space to explore my sexuality in a totally different way – just for myself. No expectations from anyone else, no pressure. And that’s when I had this big realization: intimacy isn’t just about being with someone else, it’s mainly about the relationship we have with ourselves.
When I saw all these inspiring projects online focused on female sexuality, I thought, “Yes, I want to try this!” But when I checked out the offerings in the Czech market, nothing caught my eye. Everything was either too explicit or downright vulgar. Instead of feeling more empowered, it made me feel like I was doing something wrong. So, I ended up ordering from abroad and seeking out information about intimacy from international sources.
That’s when the question started forming: “Why isn’t there something like this here?” And suddenly, it all clicked. Why wasn’t there a place where women could find high-quality products and trustworthy information about intimacy and self-care? And that’s how the idea for Oumai was born.
In the summer of 2023, I excitedly shared the idea with Bára. And guess what? She was just as excited! Bára grew up in a household where medicine and sports were daily topics – her mom’s a gynecologist, and her dad’s a tennis coach. From a young age, she knew how important it was to listen to her body. Oumai made perfect sense to her, and together, we decided to create a space where women could care for their intimacy with respect, without judgment or pressure.
We created Oumai to be a space where you can care for yourself and your intimacy. No shame, no pressure, just respect for yourself. We believe that intimate wellbeing is a key part of life, and we want to support you on that journey.
Welcome! We’re so happy to have you with us at the beginning of this adventure. Let’s walk this path together!
